CEO & President Nicole Zussman presented Stroker with the Distinguished Service Award, AMC’s highest honor. The Award is bestowed on individuals whose service to AMC’s mission spans a sustained period at the highest levels, and is reflective not only of an exceptional commitment to individual AMC programs and communities, but also a profound understanding of the mission, values, and promise of the entire organization.
Stroker’s service to AMC spans decades and traverses multiple gigs, starting in 1975 with four summers on the Three Mile Island Croo, then joining the staff at Pinkham Notch in 1978. He spent formative years on Construction Crew, worked the front desk at Joy Street, and at shorter stints at AMC huts and shelters in the White Mountain.
Stroker would be the first to acknowledge the volunteerism and service records of others, and rank himself as one of many. However, behind every accomplishment is a great teacher, and for 50 years Stroker has been there patiently mentoring, empowering others, and sharing his joy, wisdom, and the musings of a recovering English major.
Well deserved, Stroker!
Congratulations Stroker!!! Who would have guessed that bailing the grease trap on Three Mile or playing music in the Pinkham dining room would end you up with this well deserved honor!! You rock. And have always been an inspiration, watching from afar, for your love and commitment to the AMC. And your friends. And your music. And your wood working. And your writing….
