Ben Campbell: For several years, a pair of boots roved the huts system. They belonged to Ben Campbell, an experienced croo member and Greenleaf Hutmaster. In 1980, Ben achieved his lifelong ambition of becoming a ⛰️ Hutmaster at Lakes of the Clouds Hut. But before Ben was able to enjoy this accomplishment, he fell and perished while hiking in the Scottish Highlands.

To honor Ben’s love of the White Mountains, his family brought his old hiking boots to Greenleaf Hut. Soon after, guests and croo members reported hearing someone walking around at night. The boots then began to disappear and 👞 travel to other huts. Finally, they were nailed to the wall of the croo room at Lakes so they would wander no more.
