Roger Allen Hart, 70, of Seal Rock Oregon died Sunday February 27, 2011 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. He worked at Greenleaf in 1957 & 1958.
He was born Sept. 16, 1940, in Lynn, Mass., and attended Yale University and Tufts University, where he pursued his interests in geology and geophysics, as well as cross country running and climbing every peak in the region. Fueled by his passion for mountain climbing, Roger worked as a geophysicist in the rainforests of Ecuador and Brazil, had a glacier named after him in Antarctica, and, as a member of the first American team to climb on Mount Everest without oxygen, was documented in the books “Four Against Everest” and “The Phaselock Code: Through Time, Death, and Reality, the Metaphysical Adventures of the Man Who Fell Off Everest.”
Roger is survived by his ex-wife, Maggie McCaffrey; their four sons, Brendan, Ian, Kieran and Taran; and three grandchildren.
Private family services will be held. Roger was grateful for his many friends in Corvallis and the surrounding area and would wish them all the best.
