Lindsey F. Rice, 77, of Chester, NH died Friday March 9, 2012 at his home. Mr. Rice was born in Marblehead, MA on August 18, 1934, a son of the late William B. and Elizabeth (Lindsey) Rice. He had resided in Chester for the past 44 years, raised and educated in the Marblehead area. After his service with the US Army during the 1950’s, he worked for the Sheridan Corp. where he moved around the country. Once settling in Chester, he served as Police Chief for the Chester Police Department. As an active volunteer with the Chester Fire Department, he was one of the first in Chester to be certified as an EMT. Mr. Rice also served the Town of Chester as town auditor, town treasurer and a civil defense director. He later owned and operated Shepherd’s Escort Service in Chester, safely getting oversized loads across the roadways. In addition, Lindsey enjoyed raising registered Hampshire Sheep on his property.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara J. (Baldauf) Rice of Chester, his son, Lindsey Rice II and his wife Susan of Barrington, NH, two grandchildren, Ammy and Christopher Rice, both of Barrington, his brother, Brooks Rice of Francestown, NH, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Scott C. Rice in 2008.
Following cremation, memorial services are planned for a later date. Burial will be in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester.
